Demand arose in PIL- Pahalgam terrorist incident should be named 'Shaheed Hindu Valley Tourist Place'

Chandigarh
An application for the naming of the place where 26 tourists were killed by religion in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday. This PIL demanded that the place where these people were brutally killed by the terrorists, were named 'Shaheed Hindu Valley Tourist Place'. Apart from this, those killed in the attack should be given martyr status. The application was rejected by the bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumit Goyal. The bench said that a decision on such demand can be taken by the government or the concerned authorities. The court cannot have any role in this.
The court said, 'It is the government's job to declare a place something or decide a memorial or change the name. Apart from this, it is not in our hands to give the status of sacrifice to a deceased person. It comes completely under the jurisdiction of the government. The bench said that the court cannot do policy making work. We keep ourselves away from this because it comes completely under the jurisdiction of Parliament or Legislative Assembly. However, the court also suggested to the petitioner that he could submit a memorandum before the government. It can be considered on the purview of the law only. We cannot consider this.
